Clinical Computer Systems Selects Zetera Storage over IP Technology for Affordable and Simple Perinatal Data System.

Optical Disk Archives Replaced With Hammer Z-Series [R] Solutions for Consolidated Storage

ELGIN, Ill. & IRVINE, Calif. -- When you are in the business of developing technology systems to assist medical personnel in providing perinatal perinatal /peri·na·tal/ (-na´t'l) relating to the period shortly before and after birth; from the twentieth to twenty-ninth week of gestation to one to four weeks after birth.

and cumbersome, and with clients ranging from small medical offices and clinics to 200+ bed hospitals, CCSI sought a new approach that would provide quick and easy access to patient data.

"Recently, our customers have begun demanding more efficient, less cumbersome storage than our optical disk system, so there was a pressing need for a solution that was easy to integrate, and provided scalability and value," said Randy Paul, VP of marketing for CCSI.

CCSI was in the process of evaluating storage products when it became aware that Zetera's Z-SAN[R] technology might be more in line with its required price-performance characteristics. As a full-service solution provider, CCSI's storage needs place an inherent emphasis on a system's serviceability (system) serviceability - The ease with which corrective maintenance or preventative maintenance can be performed on a system (e.g. by a hardware service technician). Higher serviceability improves availability and reduces service cost.

and end-of-life management. The business model is further complicated because most clinics have a limited IT staff, meaning that almost every system glitch A temporary or random hardware malfunction. It is possible that a bug in a program may cause the hardware to appear as if it had a glitch in it and vice versa. At times it can be extremely difficult to determine whether a problem lies within the hardware or the software. See glitch attack.  requires a service call to CCSI. "Other systems met our performance and capacity needs, but they were not user-friendly and had pricing structures that would have caused customer dissatisfaction," said Paul.

"We're excited to serve as the preferred archive technology for the Obix line," said Ryan Malone Ryan Malone (born December 1, 1979 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) is a professional ice hockey left winger/center who currently plays for the Pittsburgh Penguins of the NHL. Career , Zetera's vice president of partner and channel development. "Zetera's Z-SAN[R] technology and the Hammer[TM] Z-Series deliver CCSI's customers greater peace of mind at a more economical price point."

) application are features that round out the solution. "We struggled to find a cost effective solution while not compromising quality. Bell Microproducts' Hammer Z-Series line, based on Zetera's Z-SAN technology, delivers great performance and features, while the system's capacity can be scaled easily to serve the needs of Labor and Delivery units from 2 beds to 200," added Paul.

A recent installation in Hawaii was a true testament to the product's ease of use and resiliency. A CCSI technician was able to configure the system and bring it up in production in under an hour and, due to the fact that the company doesn't have a service office in Hawaii, it hasn't been touched since. "A huge benefit in archiving to the Hammer Z-Series is that the doctors, nurses and our own service technicians don't have to flip the very fragile optical disks, improving customer satisfaction and data protection," continued Paul.

Hammer Z-Series products are now certified as the preferred archive solution for the Obix line and will be shipped with all Obix installations that include archiving. Labor and Delivery units benefit from enhanced data protection and reduced maintenance headaches, while the cost of a Z-SAN solution is actually lower than the optical disk product. "We are extremely pleased with the results of pairing Z-SAN technology with the Obix line. Hammer Z-Series is the perfect replacement for optical disk archiving. It is stable, scalable, easy to implement and value priced," noted Paul.

About Zetera Corporation

Zetera Corporation is the developer of Z-SAN[TM], a SoIP (Storage over Internetworking Protocol) technology that enables networked storage to be realized at unprecedented price-performance levels. The technology was invented by the creators of the IDE (1) (Integrated Development Environment) A set of programs run from a single user interface. For example, programming languages often include a text editor, compiler and debugger, which are all activated and function from a common menu.  and ATAPI (AT Attachment Packet Interface) The specification for ATA (IDE) tape drives and CD-ROMs. See IDE.

disk drive standards, which have shipped in billions of disk drives. Leveraging the latest IP advances, Zetera has created a new class of network storage technology that is superior in performance, cost, scalability and compatibility to all other types of network storage.
