THE plight of a three-year-old North Wales North Wales (known in some archaic texts as Northgalis) is the northernmost unofficial region of Wales, bordered to the south by Mid Wales and to the east by England.  boy who can't eat, walk or talk has touched the hearts of fundraisers who are rallying to send him for treatment to one of Europe's top clinics.

Ben Hurdes, of Rhosneigr, Anglesey, suffers from a rare brain malfunction, Dandy Walker Variant syndrome, which can affect one in 80, 000 children from birth.

Now his mum, Sharon, 40, and his grandparents Bob and Joan Hands of Llanfaelog, are hoping the Peto clinic in the Hungarian capital of Budapest will be able to treat him, including revolutionary physiotherapy methods.

They first heard about the clinic through a fellow holiday maker in Turkey. A fundraising effort, backed by the Happy Faces charity, has been set up.

``We are determined to do everything we can to get the best possible help for Ben, '' said Mrs Hands, 60.

``Ben is fed on baby food from jars. He can just about sit up but mostly moves about on his back, and still wears nappies.

``We are living in hope that the people in Budapest can help. We know they have achieved major treatment successes in the past.

``So far pounds 4, 000 has been raised but the fund is ongoing because we know he will need to make regular trips to the clinic.

``If everything goes well, we are hoping to take him there for the first time towards the end of October or early November. ''

She added: ``Peto first came to our attention when we were on holiday in Turkey.

An appeal web site -www. benhurdesfundrasing. co. uk -- has been set up on Ben's behalf by supporters.

It has resulted in one donation of pounds 200 from a mother who had a pregnancy terminated when she was told her baby had the same condition.
