ClinTrials Research Appoints A New Vice President, Clinical Monitoring, The Americas.

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 20, 1999--

ClinTrials Research, Inc. (NASDAQ:CCRO), a global provider of preclinical and clinical research services to pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device clients today announced an appointment to its senior management personnel.

Karen E. Woodin, Ph.D., will join the company as vice president, Clinical Monitoring, June 1, 1999. Dr. Woodin's responsibilities will include direction and development of the clinical monitoring staff in the Americas. Dr. Woodin has twenty-one years of experience in pharmaceutical product development, serving in key roles for Pharmacia and Upjohn, including Director of Corporate Pharmacovigilance, Manager of Field Monitoring and Surveillance, and Clinical Research Associate. Her most recent responsibilities included co-management of a team of professional and support personnel for performing worldwide collection, investigation, and reporting activities on adverse events. She also managed a field-based team of medical research associates and clinical research nurses that initiated and monitored registration studies as well as investigated and monitored adverse events. Dr. Woodin has managed monitoring programs in the therapeutic areas of central nervous system, trauma, immunology, oncology, and infectious diseases, and has acted as an operational consultant in the areas of metabolic, cardiovascular, and dermatologic diseases. Dr. Woodin received her Ph.D. in biostatistics from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. She currently serves on the board of the Drug Information Association (DIA).
