Climbing data. Many thanks to Jason Berg for his recent article on climbing walls A climbing wall is an artificially constructed wall with grips for hands and feet, used for climbing. Some are brick or wooden constructions, but on most modern walls, the material used is a thick multiplex board with holes drilled into it. [October, 2005]. I'd like to offer some updates to his data in the instant expert sidebar (1) A Windows Vista desktop panel that holds mini applications (gadgets) such as a calendar, calculator, stock ticker and Vonage phone dialer. This is significant for the recreational or park facility manager, as participation in artificial wall climbing has surpassed participation climbing on natural rock. The study further points out that the representation of 16-24 year olds in the artificial wall participant population is 67.8 percent, an ideal demographic for recreation facilities who desire to attract youth and families. As Jason points out, climbing is a fun, active and challenging sport. No wonder we are seeing such popularity of climbing gyms at community recreation centers, youth centers, YMCA's, schools and colleges. Rich Cook, Boulder, Colo. |
