Climate-change conclusion.


Issue after issue, THE NEW AMERICAN American, river, 30 mi (48 km) long, rising in N central Calif. in the Sierra Nevada and flowing SW into the Sacramento River at Sacramento. The discovery of gold at Sutter's Mill (see Sutter, John Augustus) along the river in 1848 led to the California gold rush of  belittles those calling attention to the issue of climate change. While in agreement with 90 percent of your excellent articles, this belittling be·lit·tle

 troubles me greatly.

In warning of economic calamity due to treaties such as Kyoto Kyoto (kyō`tō), city (1990 pop. 1,461,140), capital of Kyoto prefecture, S Honshu, Japan, on the Kamo River. Yodo is its port. Kyoto is one of Japan's largest cities and an important cultural and spiritual center. , you are missing the larger picture. While the rest of the world moves toward the efficiencies demanded by such treaties, we can either adapt or fall protesting by the wayside.

The validity of climate change not withstanding, prudence dictates this nation become the leader in the technologies of the future. This leadership will allow this nation to become energy independent and no longer fund the people we currently fight by purchasing their oil. The high-paying sustainable jobs of the future lay in the fields of alternative and renewable forms of energy. Along with true national security, we will all enjoy cleaner air and water as we transition from a petroleum-based society.
