Climate change theme on Environment Day.


Climate change was the theme of this year's World Environment Day celebrated on 5 June. In a message issued on the Day, Secretary-General Javier Perez de Cuellar Pé·rez de Cuél·lar   , Javier Born 1920.

The General Assembly Hall and adjacent conference rooms overflowed with fresh faces and hopeful voices, as some 1,500 young people from aU over the world attending UNEP's annual Global Youth Forum sought ways to save the Earth.

The two-day Forum featured workshops on conservation, hazardous waste, global warming and video/computer networking. Two dozen student-produced environmental videos were screened and a number of impressive young speakers articulated their vision from the great Assembly podium. The Children's Steel Band kicked off the big closing party at a park across the street from UN Headquarters.
