In a release announcing the report's findings, the Cleveland Clinic reported heart transplant recipient survival rates of 96.2% after 1 month; 88.1% after 1 year; and 85.8% after 34 months.

Expected survival takes into account such factors as each recipient's medical condition, and other characteristics, donor characteristics, and survival rates of all heart transplant recipients in the US.

In the release the clinic pointed out that a small number of transplant programs in the US produced higher than expected results in 1 or 2 time categories, but they were the only program with statistically higher survival rates than expected in all 3 time categories.
