In 2007 it ranks as America's third-largest community foundation, with assets in excess of $1.9 billion and annual grants surpassing $85 million. this quarter. Grants from donor-advised funds make up $3,278,942 of the total. In addition to making disbursements in response to general grant requests, the Foundation also addressed major capital grants. Organizations receiving these grants are: -- The Covenant, Inc. -- Located in a church annex building in Ohio City, The Covenant is the sole provider of substance abuse treatment for adolescents on the west side of Cleveland. The Covenant plans to restore the historic McGuffey School as its permanent home. -- A $700,000 grant was made toward a $2.8 million project for the construction of the Covenant Adolescent Chemical Dependency & Prevention Center. The new center would enable the agency to increase its treatment capacity by 50 percent. In addition, the project allows The Covenant to consider development of a community school for youth involved with substance abuse. The planned site would include space for counseling, therapeutic group meetings, staff, classrooms, a gymnasium and a kitchen. -- Shaker Square Development Corporation (SHAD) -- SHAD intends to purchase and revitalize the Moreland Greens Apartment complex located on the south end of Shaker Square. Currently, Moreland Greens is a deteriorating property with higher than typical occupancy turnover, thereby creating an unstable situation. The Foundation awarded a $550,000 grant toward the $12 million project that would reconfigure the six building complex to include 194 rental units plus approximately 30 for sale townhouses. Additionally, this project is designed to produce a mixed income development that will include approximately 25 percent lower income families.
