Clearnet to Amalgamate Head Office Operations with Move to Scarborough - The MiKE company is set to add more than 300 employees in Toronto area in 1997.

PICKERING, ONTARIO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 22, 1997-- (TSE, ME NET.A., NASDAQ CLNTF.) Clearnet Communications Inc. ("Clearnet") today announced that in the fall of 1997 it will consolidate its fast-growing national headquarters into a single 220,000-square-foot operation in the Toronto suburb of Scarborough.

Clearnet has entered into a 10-year lease for the space in Scarborough's prestigious Consilium Place office complex. The deal represents an approximate $45 million commitment over the entire lease term. The new space is more than four times the size of Clearnet's existing Pickering head-office space and will allow the wireless-communications company to consolidate employees from four Toronto-area locations into the facility at 200 Consilium Place.

Those amenities include in-complex restaurants, banks and shops, a Toronto Transit Commission LRT stop, ample parking and shuttle service to the nearby Scarborough Town Centre. But location was the key: Consilium is at Highway 401 and McCowan, allowing a convenient commute for the more than 450 Clearnet employees living in Toronto and surrounding regions. Clearnet expects to add more than 300 new staff to the Consilium Place location in 1997, which has room to accommodate as many as 1,200 employees as Clearnet continues to expand over the coming years.

Clearnet currently has more than 750 employees in offices in Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary and Montreal, and Clearnet Business Communications Centre (CBCC) dealerships in 19 locations across Canada. Clearnet expects to create approximately 400 new positions across Canada in 1997 alone.
