, ME - NET.A) is pleased to announce the appointment of Claudette MacKay-Lassonde, P.Eng. and William L. Young, P.Eng. as two independent directors on Clearnet's Board of Directors.

Both MacKay-Lassonde and Young are Canadian citizens. They will fill vacancies left by the resignations from the board of two members of management, Robert G. McFarlane, Clearnet's Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, and Lee D. Meredith, Clearnet's Controller. McFarlane and Meredith were appointed to the board pending the identification and appointment of these two independent directors. McFarlane and Meredith retain their senior management positions at Clearnet.

As part of their Directorships, both MacKay-Lassonde and Young will be members of Clearnet's Audit Committee, MacKay-Lassonde will be a member of Clearnet's Nominating Committee A nominating committee is a group formed usually from inside the membership of an organization for the purpose of nominating candidates for office within the organization. It works similarly to an electoral college, the main difference being that the available candidates, either  and Young will be a member of Clearnet's Compensation Committee. MacKay-Lassonde has a strong engineering and business background and has held a variety of executive positions in both the private and public sectors. She is currently President of Firelight Investments Ltd., a private investment company with interests in bio-technology and high-technology companies. Prior to assuming her position at Firelight, MacKay-Lassonde held a number of positions, including Vice President, Corporate Affairs, Xerox Canada Limited and Assistant Deputy Minister, Communications and Assistant Deputy Minister, Trade and International Relations international relations, study of the relations among states and other political and economic units in the international system. Particular areas of study within the field of international relations include diplomacy and diplomatic history, international law,  with the Government of Ontario The Government of Ontario refers to the provincial government of the province of Ontario. MacKay-Lassonde is a professional engineer and has been an active participant in various professional bodies. She currently serves as Chairman of the Canadian Engineering Memorial Foundation and, amongst other roles, was formerly President of the Professional Engineers of Ontario. MacKay-Lassonde holds an M.B.A. from the University of Toronto Research at the University of Toronto has been responsible for the world's first electronic heart pacemaker, artificial larynx, single-lung transplant, nerve transplant, artificial pancreas, chemical laser, G-suit, the first practical electron microscope, the first cloning of T-cells, , an M.Sc. (Nuclear Engineering) from the University of Utah The University of Utah (also The U or the U of U or the UU), located in Salt Lake City, is the flagship public research university in the state of Utah, and one of 10 institutions that make up the Utah System of Higher Education.  and a B.A.Sc. Young has substantial operating experience in marketing and distribution as well as a consulting background with an emphasis on developing and implementing profit improvement programs and organizational restructuring strategies. He is currently a partner in Westbourne Management Group, an investment management partnership, and is Chief Executive Officer and Vice-Chairman of Consumers Distributing Inc. Prior to holding these positions, Young was a partner with Bain & Co., an international management consulting firm where he held positions in both Boston, Massachusetts and London, England, specializing in corporate acquisition identification and integration. Previous to joining Bain, he was a Design Engineer and Project Manager for Imperial Oil with responsibility for a variety of large scale design and construction projects.

Young is a professional engineer and holds an M.B.A. from Harvard University from which he graduated with distinction, as well as a B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from Queen's University. Young is a Trustee of Sedbergh School in Montebello, Quebec, a Director of the Dellcrest Children's Centre of Toronto, and Governor of the Shaw Festival, Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Clearnet recently commenced building-out Canada's first fully integrated digital wireless network. Clearnet intends to complete full digital coverage of the Windsor through Quebec City corridor by the first quarter 1996 and to follow that up with coverage in Vancouver and lower mainland British Columbia and the Edmonton to Calgary, Alberta corridor.

Clearnet is a Canadian controlled company and is constructing its new digital network utilizing Motorola technology. Once completed, the Clearnet network will, for the first time in Canada Canada is divided into six time zones and ranks third among countries with respect to number of time zones, after Russia (eleven) and the United States (nine).
