The clearing process made it possible for Nakai to secure a place on the course she really wanted. "I was already planning to go to university prior to receiving my exam results," said Nakai. "I didn't have any firm plans about the course I wanted to study, but I knew I really wanted to work with children. "One of my close friends had been at Newman for a year and said it was a good place to be. I secured a place by going along, when invited, with my results and applied there and then. I was immediately accepted." The clearing process enables students to apply for last-minute places, providing they have the necessary grades. "It really is worth ringing round to see what else is on offer," said Nakai. "Make a list of questions, compare your options and if you have time, look around. "It's OK to go out on a limb as long as you follow your dreams and are happy. Life goes on and, sometimes, an unexpected result can open a new world."
