Frank Joynson, 63, was sentenced to 13 years last December after being found guilty of abusing vulnerable youngsters at Wessington Court school in Herefordshire. The children were all in the care of local authorities, mostly from the Midlands. But Mr Joynson has now been freed after appeal court judges ruled the convictions were unsafe as they had relied on evidence, such as social services records, that were at least 40 years old. The ruling is expected to have ramifications for police forces hoping to bring prosecutions relating to historical offences, particularly child abuse cases, that date back decades. Mr Joynson is now back living with relatives in Doncaster. His lawyer, Mark Newby, told the Sunday Mercury that he planned to recommend to the carer that he sue for the maximumpossible compensation. "He can sue for up to pounds 800-perday of imprisonment Imprisonment See also Isolation. Alcatraz Island former federal maximum security penitentiary, near San Francisco; “escapeproof.” [Am. "The prosecution case had relied upon information, particularly social services records, that was 40 years old and could not accurately be relied upon." Based on the pounds 800-per-day figure, Mr Joynson could be eligible to claim a staggering pounds 30,000 for his time spent behind bars. The alleged offences had related to a period between 1969 and 1972 when he was a carer at Wessington Court School, Herefordshire, an institution for troubled youngsters.
