Verisity Ltd. (Nasdaq:VRST VRST Virtual Reality Software and Technology

) and ClearSpeed Technology today announced that ClearSpeed has achieved first-pass silicon success on the development of the CS301 high-performance, low-power floating-point processor using Verisity's Verification Process Automation (VPA) solutions. The CS301 is the world's highest floating point performance chip, achieving upwards of 25 Gigaflop gigaflop - gigaflops  performance, or 25 billion floating point operations a second. ClearSpeed verified the chip using Verisity's VPA solutions specifically targeted for the verification specialist, including the Specman Elite(R) technology.

The fully programmable CS301 multi-threaded array processor includes 64-way parallel processing parallel processing, the concurrent or simultaneous execution of two or more parts of a single computer program, at speeds far exceeding those of a conventional computer. , running at the target clock speed of 200MHz (MegaHertZ) One million cycles per second. It is used to measure the transmission speed of electronic devices, including channels, buses and the computer's internal clock. A one-megahertz clock (1 MHz) means some number of bits (16, 32, 64, etc.  while consuming fewer than two watts, a fraction of the traditional power requirements. ClearSpeed will demonstrate working silicon of the CS301 this week at the SC 2003 conference in Phoenix, Arizona Phoenix /ˈfiːˌnɪks/ (English: Phoenix, Navajo: Hoozdo, lit. "the place is hot", Western Apache: Fiinigis) is the capital and the most populous city of the U.S. .

"Meeting ever increasing market demands by delivering first-pass working silicon quickly, and cost-effectively, was a tough goal. Even with its breakthrough architecture, delivering a world-leading parallel processor like the CS301 was incredibly challenging -- it took the best people, approaches and tools," said Russell David, vice president of engineering at ClearSpeed Technology. "To verify the device, we chose Verisity and it has turned out to be a great choice. We had application code running within days of receiving first silicon, something we would not have achieved without the power and ease-of-use of Verisity's VPA solutions, and the high quality of support that Verisity provides."

Verisity's VPA solutions simplify the complex process of verification through a combination of automation technology, methodology and analyses. Verisity automates the verification process that starts with executable specs (SPECificationS) The details of the components built into a device. See specification.  and verification plans to the realization of 'total coverage' of hardware and software functionality and verification closure. Verisity's Specman Elite provides an environment for all aspects of verification, including automatic generation of functional tests, data and assertion checking and functional coverage analysis.

"The CS301 has the potential to bring supercomputer performance to the desktop," said Sean Redmond, vice president and general manager of European Operations for Verisity. "Verisity and ClearSpeed partnered closely for the verification success of this breakthrough design and the fact that ClearSpeed was able to turn out fully functional, working silicon the first time is a clear testament to the capability of Verisity's VPA solutions. We congratulate ClearSpeed on the successful delivery of the CS301 and look forward to working with them on future generations of the microprocessor."
