A sales order may be for products and/or services. Given the wide variety of businesses, this means that the orders can be fulfilled in several ways.  Drop Shipment solution. The ClearOrbit solution will improve the velocity and responsiveness of Foundry Networks' global supply network through electronic collaboration with its 3PLs (Third Party Logistics providers). Based in San Jose, CA, Foundry Networks is a leading provider of high-performance, enterprise and service provider switching, routing, and Web traffic management solutions. With over 7,000 global customers and ten facilities across the United States, Asia, and the UK, Foundry Networks uses ClearOrbit to obtain real-time visibility and control across its extended supply chain.

ClearOrbit's Sales Order Drop Shipment solution--part of the Xtended Process Control (X.PC) product suite -- enables manufacturers and distributors to manage ordering, shipping, and inventory processes by electronically collaborating with trading partners such as 3PLs, Contract Manufacturers, Electronic Manufacturing Service (EMS) providers and component suppliers. X.PC provides "best of breed" capabilities for supplier collaboration and outsourced manufacturing management while extending the data model and capabilities of existing enterprise systems. X.PC is pre-integrated to leading ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) An integrated information system that serves all departments within an enterprise. Evolving out of the manufacturing industry, ERP implies the use of packaged software rather than proprietary software written by or for one customer.  systems, such as the Oracle(R) (NASDAQ: ORCL ORCL Oracle (stock symbol) ) E-Business Suite and SAP(R) (NYSE NYSE

With ClearOrbit, Foundry Networks provides 3PLs on-line visibility to its Oracle ERP for sales order information, and then controls the fulfillment of those orders at critical transaction points such as order acceptance, packing, staging, and shipping. Email notifications and alerts keep trading partners abreast of new sales orders and last-minute changes, which prevents order fulfillment mistakes. 3PLs can print key documents - barcode labels, packing slips, commercial invoices, and international shipment documents - using data pulled in real-time from Foundry's Oracle ERP system. Business rules direct the configuration of each order according to customer-specific requirements, allowing 3PLs to dynamically assemble shipments to respond to changing market conditions, without carrying excessive inventories of specific finished products. This "inventory postponement" strategy allows Foundry to reduce finished goods carrying costs Carrying costs

 without impacting order response time.

"We set extraordinarily high standards for ourselves on order delivery and customer satisfaction which cannot be met without complete flexibility and visibility among our logistics partners and all of our operations," said Richard Bridges, Vice President of Manufacturing at Foundry Networks. "ClearOrbit's Sales Order Drop Shipment solution empowers our 3PLs to help us immediately react to dramatic changes in our inventory and sales requirements. By providing our 3PLs the capability to dynamically process shipments on our behalf, we have significantly improved customer response while reducing inventory and warehousing requirements."

"Companies realize that there are tremendous financial benefits to sharing real-time sales and inventory data with supply chain partners," said John Reece, President of ClearOrbit. "But despite the promise of collaboration, few trading partners have successfully integrated their systems and processes -- most 'collaboration' still consists of exchanging faxes, emails, and phone calls. We are proud to have helped Foundry Networks' rise achieve competitive advantage by electronically collaborating with their 3PLs, enabling them to proactively handle the sudden shifts in sales and inventory conditions common in high-tech markets."
