Clear-Green to construct hog manure value-added project with CPIG.

Clear-Green Environmental Inc., SaskPower and Cudworth Pork Investors Group (CPIG CPIG Cudworth Pork Investors Group
CPIG Crown Premises Inspection Group (UK Office of the Deputy Prime Minister)
) have partnered to construct a full-scale commerical demonstration project that will process liquid hog manure into renewable energy Renewable energy utilizes natural resources such as sunlight, wind, tides and geothermal heat, which are naturally replenished. Renewable energy technologies range from solar power, wind power, and hydroelectricity to biomass and biofuels for transportation. , fertilizer and greenhouse gas greenhouse gas

"This demonstration project provides new opportunities for value-added processing of livestock manure in Saskatchewan," said Ben Voss, president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization.  is a product that can replace natural gas as a fuel and it is a key contributor to the many renewable energy opportunities that exist in the province. It is through partnerships with SaskPower and CPIG that private companies can generate not only good economic returns, but also significant benefits to the province in terms of environmental protection and enhance economic development."

Clear-Green is investing $1.5 million in the construction of a large-scale facility which will produce biogas through anaerobic digestion Anaerobic digestion (AD) is the natural process of biological degradation of organic material in the absence of air. An anaerobic digester is a man-made system that harnesses this process to treat waste and produce biogas and anaerobic digestate, a soil-improving material. . Bacteria produce methane gas from the organic material in livestock manure. The biogas is used by SaskPower for conversion into electricity and heat. The hog barn (CPIG) is partnering to supply the manure to the processing facility and in exchange will receive heat and a variety of other environmental benefits.

"CPIG is very excited and highly supportive of this project," said Donald Kolla, general manager of CPIG. "Manure is a very important part of our hog operation and if new technology can produce more value from it, we are interested to partner in new opportunities."

Manure from intensive livestock operations and waste from food processing Food processing is the set of methods and techniques used to transform raw ingredients into food for consumption by humans or animals. The food processing industry utilises these processes.  facilities can be converted to energy, fertilizer and greenhouse gas credits using Clear-Green's advanced technology. Clear-Green expects to build a number of plants in Western Canada following successful completion of this inaugural project with CPIG and SaskPower.
