and air purification program with the opening of a Texas office which will focus on marketing the firm's licensed technology to treat athletic facilities nationwide. CleanZone uses patent-pending, high-performance ozone generators to safely and effectively eliminate bacteria, viruses, mold and unpleasant odors from locker rooms and protective equipment.

While student, amateur and professional athletes are well aware of the risk of injury, only a few are aware of another real threat to their performance and health - the risk of serious infection caused by bacteria, particularly Methicillin methicillin /meth·i·cil·lin/ (meth?i-sil´in) a semisynthetic penicillin highly resistant to inactivation by penicillinase; used as the sodium salt.

See MARSA. ), in their locker rooms or on their gear.

A growing number of MRSA instances have been reported, including several which have proven fatal. Though these types of occurrences are more common in hockey, football, wrestling and other contact sports, two members of the Toronto Blue Jay baseball team were hospitalized this summer with staph infections in their legs.

"This new technology uses the natural purification properties of ozone, which has been utilized in water purification and food processing for years, to address an area of growing concern among sports physicians, trainers and owners," said Brian Gauthier, CleanZone's director of sports-related programs, who manages the new Dallas office. "The process has been shown to be better than 99% effective against staph aureus and is environmentally safe."

The company has several new products in the planning stages, including a stand-alone sanitizing locker that disinfects and deodorizes a complete set of protective equipment "while you wait" in just 15 minutes.
