Clean sheet is sweetest thing about Cup win.

Byline: Eric NIXON Eric Walter Nixon (born October 4, 1962 in Manchester) is a former English goalkeeper. His career spanned 22 years, nine of which were spent at Tranmere Rovers. He played for thirteen different clubs and made over 500 league appearances before his retirement in 2004.

of things pleased me about Tranmere's 1-0 win at Leyton Orient in the FA Cup.

From every account I've read and listened to, it wasn't a great game but who cares? The win was just what the doctor ordered. And you have to say Les Parry and the boys were due a turn of luck. It also underlined the importance of keeping a clean sheet, a rare commodity for Rovers this season.

I know goalkeeper Luke Daniels Luke Daniels (born January 5, 1988) is an English football goalkeeper, currently playing for West Bromwich Albion. He signed his first professional contract in July 2006 after putting pen to paper on a one-year Hawthorns deal, with a further year's option in the club's favour.  will have been delighted to keep that clean sheet. Luke's had a rough time lately with injuries, getting sent off against Stockport and having to sit on the substitutes' bench when the keeper from Liverpool, David Martin David Martin may refer to: Politicians

, came on loan and took his place.

Luke has always been a good goalkeeper in my view and it was not his fault Tranmere were conceding so many goals in the first two months of the season.

Without Luke, the goals against record would have been a lot worse.

So it is good to see him picking himself up and putting in a couple of good performances at Norwich and Orient.

You often hear managers say they will take a scruffy 1-0 win from poor performance any time - and Les Parry and Shaun Garnett will accept a few more results like Tuesday night without a problem.

It does not matter if the team didn't do so well going forward when there's a clean sheet, a victory and a place in the second round of the FA Cup to show for their efforts.

 among others.

But we have heard quite a few hard luck stories this season. The record books will show a 2-0 defeat, albeit to a good Norwich side, and no points on the board.

Rovers go back to Brisbane Road in the league today and and in many ways this game is bigger than the cup tie.

There is a lot at stake. By posting another win this afternoon, Rovers could close the gap on Orient from six points to three. Lose it and Tranmere are nine points behind the Londoners and in danger of being cast adrift at the bottom end of the table.

But Rovers will be stronger. I think success in the cup tie can give them a psychological lift.
