Clean our Cenotaph; You Say Email:letters@liverpoolecho.co.uk.


I HAVE just attended the Remembrance Service at the Plateau, as I have for many years from when my father marched with the Veterans of WW2. It was well attended and as usual well organised, though the parade gets sadly shorter every year.

Can I make two points, the beautiful Cenotaph cenotaph

(Greek: “empty tomb”) Monument, sometimes in the form of a tomb, to a person buried elsewhere. Ancient Greek writings tell of many cenotaphs, none of which survives. Existing cenotaphs of this type are found in churches (e.g.
 designed by Lionel Budden, needs another clean-up, maybe it's the stone or the rainy weather that made it look a bit shabby.

Secondly, why not let us have a free parking day to encourage more people to come and pay their respects, then adjourn adjourn v. the final closing of a meeting, such as a convention, a meeting of the board of directors, or any official gathering. It should not be confused with a recess, meaning the meeting will break and then continue at a later time. (See: recess, session)  to the pub (for a lemonade of course) or the shops.
