Classic cut has Martin considering the future.

JUNCTION CITY - Casey Martin sank a par putt on the 18th green, retrieved his ball from the cup and offered a quick wave after receiving a modest ovation from a handful of fans.

And so ended what was likely the Eugene native's final appearance at the Oregon Classic. Martin shot a 4-over 76 on Friday for a two-day total of 9-over 153, missing the cut of the Nationwide Tour event at Shadow Hills Country Club.

"I obviously didn't play well," Martin said. "I didn't make a birdie in two days, and that has to do with my putting. I had numerous opportunities. I just never made anything happen."

Martin, who overcame a circulatory disorder in his right leg to play professional golf, said he struggled physically this week.

"I don't know why, but the last couple weeks haven't been real good," said Martin, 33, a South Eugene High graduate. "I need to get off my leg for a little bit, and hopefully that will come back so I can practice."

He said he will rest until the multistage PGA Tour Qualifying Tournament begins later this month, hoping for one more shot at the PGA Tour.

"I'm going to go to 'Q School' one last time and see if I can make something happen," he said. "If not, I might start looking and seeing what other possibilities are out there."

Martin played on the PGA Tour in 2000, but he has struggled since returning to the Nationwide Tour. In the past two years, he's made the cut three times in 17 events, his best finish a tie for 12th at the Oregon Classic last year.

He said he's entertained the idea of coaching in college - he discussed an opening at Stanford, his alma mater, last year - and other business ventures.

"I'll have plenty of time to think about (the future)," he said. "We'll see what happens."

Elsewhere, defending champion Jeff Quinney, Sheldon graduate Brian Henninger and former Oregon standout John Ellis all advanced to the weekend.

Quinney shot a 1-over 73 on Friday and sits at even-par through two rounds. The cut was set at par.

"It was a little tough out there today, and I was disappointed that I left a lot of shots out there," said Quinney, a South Eugene High graduate. "That's probably the most putts I've missed inside 10 feet all year, and that's usually my strength."

Ellis had a bogey-free second round while posting three consecutive birdies, finishing with a 3-under 69. He is 2 under for the tournament.

"I played solid today," said Ellis, a second-year pro. "It's the round you want - I didn't sweat and I wasn't nervous."

After carding a 75 in the first round, Henninger rallied Friday to shoot a 3-under 69 and make the cut.

Henninger said he played "a pretty flawless round. ... I was happy to make the weekend, for sure."

Robert Garrigus of Gresham and David Lebeck of Portland survived the evening rainstorm to make the cut. Garrigus is tied for 12th at 5 under, and Lebeck is 2 under after two 71s.

Mark Keating, the Shadow Hills head pro, shot a 2-over 74 Friday and missed the cut.
