Classic cars can be reliable, too; YourSay.

WHILST I was pleased to note in Wednesday's Telegraph that The Enemy's front man Tom Clarke Tom Clarke may refer to:
  • Tom Clarke (politician) (born 1941), British Member of Parliament
  • Thomas Clarke (Irish Republican) (1857-1916), a revolutionary leader involved in the 1916 Easter Rising
had bought an E Type Jaguar, as the classic car movement needs more young people to get involved, I was sad to read that it had broken down on his first two outings with it.

Classic cars should be no less reliable than modern ones if properly maintained.

I took my Coventry-built 1952 Standard Vanguard on a day trip to a vintage event in West Yorkshire West Yorkshire, former metropolitan county, N central England. Created in the 1974 local government reorganization, the county largely embraced the Leeds conurbation and comprised five metropolitan districts: Calderdale, Bradford, Leeds, Wakefield, and Kirklees.  on Easter Sunday, a 325-mile round trip largely on the M1, and the car didn't miss a beat.

Many friends of mine own classics and rarely have trouble. I expect most of them will be out and about on Sunday, April 26, which has been designated as "Drive It Day" for classic car owners by the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs.

If Tom really wants to enjoy his E Type he should get it properly checked over and sorted by a professional and will hopefully have many years of enjoyable classic motoring.

Peter Lockley, chairman, Standard Motor Club, Wulfstan Drive, Long Itchington Long Itchington is a large village and civil parish in the Stratford-on-Avon district of Warwickshire, England. In the 2001 census it had a population of 2,161. The village is named after the River Itchen which flows to the south and west of the village. ..
