Renihan, a Londoner, says: 'I don't know whether it's daunting because everybody would know the songs and the film. But it's daunting because it's such a mammoth part to play.

'It's an enormous play which deals with huge themes - slavery, emancipation of women, being a widowed mother, going out to a strange country, dealing with new cultures.'

Elizabeth remembers the songs from childhood.

'I had the record of it when I was a little girl.
