Class act: boost your grade big-time in seven easy steps....

It's not too late to bump up your grades and make the parents proud. Bring home a report card that rocks, and you could be heading into summer vacay with an extended curfew curfew [O.Fr.,=cover fire], originally a signal, such as the ringing of a bell, to damp the fire, extinguish all lights in the dwelling, and retire for the night. The custom originated as a precaution against fires and was common throughout Europe in the Middle Ages.  and maybe even some bonus bucks!

ASK FOR HELP

Get your teacher on your side. Believe it or not, teachers want you to succeed. If you're serious about improving your grade, it's likely your teacher will do everything to help make it happen. "Students who come to me make themselves stand out," says Ms. Ruble, an English teacher in California. "I pay more attention to them and do what I can to help. But don't go two days before grades are due. Go before it becomes an issue."

DON'T FEAR "Don't Fear" is the third single (in a series of four) by the English band Maps. Released on James Chapman's own label Last Space Recordings (on October 30 2006) prior to the release of their first major release We Can Create. Track listing

 THE S-WORD

What's the biggest prob when it comes to students and their grades? "They don't study!" says Ms. Ruble. Studying doesn't have to equal torture. DO FEAR THE P-WORD

Procrastination is a grade-killer, especially with those end-of-year projects you're facing. Do yourself a huge favor and don't put off major assignments until the last minute. Instead, make a timeline that breaks the beast into manageable chunks, creating your own deadlines for portions of the project.

TAKE THE HOME OUT OF HOMEWORK

You trudge through six hours of school, and have to squeeze in a Spanish Club meeting and soccer practice afterward. When you finally get home, you flop FLOP - 1. An early system on the IBM 701.

on your bed and stare at the pile of books bursting from your backpack. Ugh. Facing a heap of homework at the end of a long day can be de-motivating, to say the least. So get some of that homework out of the way while you're still at school. Finish a test early? Instead of doodling your crush's name on your binder, whip through Verb 1. whip through - go through very fast; "We whipped through the last papers that we had to read before the weekend"

BUDDY UP

Recruit a bud to join you in your grade-boosting adventure. You can compare class notes, study together and encourage one another. Vegging in front of the TV instead of studying for your math exam? Toss the remote, and call your study buddy. Tell her to come over--pronto!--to work on equations.

TAKE CARE OF YOUR BOD BOD: see sewerage.

Around crunch time at the end of the school year, it's especially important to exercise, eat right and get plenty of shut-eye. Your brain will function better if you're taking care of yourself. Nothing elaborate required--a brisk walk around the block or a 10-minute nap can really rejuvenate re·ju·ve·nate

REWARD YOURSELF

Give yourself some study incentives. You'll be more eager to crack open The Great Gatsby if you've promised yourself some IM time after three chapters. Make the size of the reward match the accomplishment. Finishing 10 math problems earns you 10 minutes on the phone with your best friend.
