Clark helps Villanova hold off Bucknell


Shane Clark scored 17 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, Scottie Reynolds added 15 points and No. 24 Villanova held off Bucknell 70-64 on Sunday. Reggie Redding had a career-high 12 points for Villanova (2-0), which had a 43-26 rebound edge.

John Griffin had a career-high 22 points for Bucknell (2-1), including 17 points in the first half when he hit five of eight 3-pointers. The Bison were 15-for-31 from 3-point range.

The Wildcats trailed 38-29 early in the second half, but went on a run to tie it 38-38 with 16:09 to play.

Bucknell rallied and tied it at 57 on a 3 by Griffin, but Reynolds hit a 3-pointer and Dante Cunningham added a dunk for a 64-57 Villanova lead with a minute to play.

Villanova led only once in the first half at 13-11. Two 3-pointers by Griffin gave Bucknell a 25-17 lead before the Wildcats tied it 25-25. Bucknell responded with a 10-2 run, including two more 3s by Griffin and a 15-foot runner by Darryl Shazier at the buzzer to take a 35-27 lead at the half.
