More than 100,000 people attend the companys productions annualy of which most are accompanied by the Louisville Orchestra. Clark Reid died in August at 51. Reid received early dance training from Bene Arnold and Willam Christensen in Utah, and in 1979, he joined the Louisville Ballet. During his 24-year tenure, Reid appeared in more than 90 ballets and over 140 roles, including leads in Don Quixote, Giselle, Limon's The Moor's Pavane pavane Stately court dance introduced from southern Europe into England in the 16th century. The dance, consisting of forward and backward steps to music in duple time, was originally used to open ceremonial balls; later its steps became livelier and it came to be paired , and Loring's Billy the Kid. Reid also helped to develop Choreographer's Showcase, an annual workshop that allows Louisville dancers to set their own choreography on their peers. In 2001 he and his wife Patricia founded Circular Motion, a group offering integrated classes for dancers with a range of physical abilities. |
