Clark Realty has partnered with the U.S. Navy to build and manage more than 1,900 new homes and manage more than 9,000 existing homes throughout Naval Complex San Diego.

"In our partnership with the U.S. Navy in building high quality homes for sailors and Marines, we take great care to reduce waste and reuse demolition material where possible," says Jim Forburger, senior vice president of Clark Realty Builders. "We fully participate in the typical construction debris recycling, where we sort and recycle drywall, cardboard and clean wood."

Forburger says Clark also recycles concrete, asphalt asphalt (ăs`fôlt, –fălt), brownish-black substance used commonly in road making, roofing, and waterproofing. Chemically, it is a natural mixture of hydrocarbons.  and gravel from whole house demolition to use in the construction of new streets and as base for utility trenches at several of their projects.

Clark estimates that it has reused more than 200,000 tons of recycled material on site at two of their Navy housing projects.
