Clark Pacific Tops Off Massive Precast Parking Structure at Mineta San Jose International Airport.

3,350 Stall, Seven-level Structure Erected in Only Eight Months

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- West Sacramento-based Clark Pacific has topped off the new 3,350-space parking structure and Quick Turn Around facility for Mineta San Jose International Airport (SJC). The seven-deck structure will house and support the airport's rental car companies and provide public parking.

Erection of the $271 million, six-acre, 1.8-million-square-foot parking structure began in October 2008, and its opening is planned for July 2010. The parking structure is part of SJC's $1.3 billion comprehensive modernization program that also includes construction of the new Terminal B and concourse, renovation of Terminal A, and roadway improvements. The overall airport modernization program remains on budget and on schedule for completion in 2010.

The design/build precast concrete project built by Clark Pacific offers cost-effective and fast construction, along with sustainable environmental features. By utilizing precast construction methodology, the City of San Jose will be able to begin using the facility five to six months sooner than if poured-in-place construction had been used. The project called for 11 months of construction for the above-grade structure, and the precast components took only eight months to complete.

General contractor Hensel Phelps Construction Co. managed the Clark Pacific design/build team. Clark Pacific also worked with parking designer, Watry Design, Inc., in the massive parking project. Hensel Phelps began work on the site preparation and foundations in January 2008.

Located directly across the roadway from the new Terminal B, the new rental car facility will make SJC more convenient and attractive for passengers by placing rental cars within a short walk or onsite bus trip. No secondary transit mode will be required to reach the rental car centers as typically found at other commercial airports.

"Clark Pacific was proud to be part of this exciting expansion for the Mineta San Jose International Airport," said Don Clark, President of Business Development at Clark Pacific. "We feel confident that the precast structure will deliver the most reliable and time efficient parking for the airport's patrons."
