Claritas Helps Media General Provide Lifestyle Segmentation Data Aimed At Enhancing Advertising Sales, Circulation and Marketing.

Business Editors

SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 11, 2002

Adding to its growing client base within the media industry, Claritas Inc., the premier provider of intelligent marketing information and target marketing services, announced today an agreement with Media General to provide market information tools aimed at increasing advertising revenue and growing circulation -- the primary tool being Claritas' signature lifestyle segmentation system, PRIZM PRIZM Potential Rating Index for Zip Marketers (Claritas, Inc.)
PRIZM Primal Zoo Machine (band)
(R).

Jeff Heard, Media General's vice president of marketing for the Publishing division, said, "We are very pleased to introduce PRIZM into our marketing mix. This is a tool with many varied applications for us, ranging from content development to lead generation."

Claritas Vice President Drake Bassett said Media General will use the PRIZM data to enhance its customer database in an effort to maximize targeted marketing: "The goal is for Media General to use these new research tools to take its marketing and business strategies to a new level."

Bassett added that with Claritas' support, Media General will be well positioned to create niche publications.

PRIZM classifies U.S. households into one of 62 unique neighborhood types or "clusters," each with a different name. The clusters are ranked in descending, socio-economic order from "Blue Blood Estates" to "Hard Scrabble," and not only capture the diversity of America's neighborhoods, but also provide a reliable framework for companies to market their goods and services In economics, economic output is divided into physical goods and intangible services. Consumption of goods and services is assumed to produce utility (unless the "good" is a "bad"). It is often used when referring to a Goods and Services Tax. .
