Claricom ready for GSI databar.

The latest version of Claricom's renowned CLARiSOFT software for Package Coding Management (PCM) includes a number of enhancements, including compatibility with the latest GS1 DataBar barcode.

Previously known as Reduced Space Symbology (RSS) barcodes, GS1 DataBar has been endorsed by GS1 for global, unrestricted trade item identification from 1 January 2010 onwards.

Claricom's decision to adopt the technology well in advance of that deadline demonstrates its commitment to holding the largest portfolio of real-time coding and labelling driver connectivity.

"GS1 DataBar is fast becoming an invaluable tool to the global supply chain, so our decision to make CLARiSOFT ready now reflects the format's growing popularity in addition to future-proofing the software in readiness for 2010," said James Butcher, managing director of Claricom.

GS1 DataBar is an important asset to the supply chain for two reasons. Firsdy, while it is smaller than the current EAN/UPC barcode it can carry more information, enabling GTIN identification of hard-to-mark products such as fresh fruit.

GS1 DataBar also provides a robust solution for suppliers and retailers that desire more space on their packaging for branding and additional information.

The second key benefit of GS1 DataBar is that it can carry GS1 Application Identifiers such as serial numbers, lot numbers and expiration dates, which creates enhanced opportunities in terms of product authentication and traceability.

Claricom has worked closely with GS1 to ensure that CLARiSOFT fully supports the GS1 DataBar barcode.

The addition of the new GS1 DataBar standard is backed by several further enhancements to CLARiSOFT Version 4.314. These include compatibility with the latest Imaje 9000 series inkjet printers and with Avery-Weightronix machines, support for the latest GS1 standards for 2D DataMatrix barcodes and compatibility with the new Windows Vista operating system.
