Clarian Health Partners, which provides more than one million outpatient visits each year and consists of more than 1,300 physicians, launched the ATG solution to extend its reach to existing and potential customers. Clarian now enables its members to check on lab results, view health tips, seek out doctor referrals and billing options and send get well cards to patients staying in its network of hospitals. Additionally, when patients register on the site, they no longer have to spend hours searching for information on particular illnesses or diseases.

Powered by ATG Scenario Personalization(TM), the site collects patient information and then personalizes content for every member, providing them with health tips and relevant articles that match their health profile. Clarian expects to reduce a great deal of time currently spent talking with patients who were often misinformed because of overflowing and inaccurate information they located on the Web.

Urging patients to deal with health care organizations who offer online communication between hospitals, doctors and patients is one way companies are looking to reduce the escalating cost of healthcare, according to the Midwest Business Group on Health. Utilizing IT for such things as drug prescription systems can help eliminate handwriting errors and flag bad drug interactions that can cost $300 billion annually, according to a survey done by the group.

Moreover, a survey conducted in April by Harris Interactive states that 90 percent of patients with access to e-mail said they would like the ability to communicate with their physicians online, and more than a third said they would be willing to pay for it. With Clarian's adoption of the ATG portal system, they're enabling this idea to become a reality.

Through its use of ATG Portal, Clarian has enabled its network of hospitals to become more proactive with customers, providing online access to physician directories, billing options or medical records that previously were not available.
