Clarent(R) Corporation (Nasdaq:CLRN), a leading provider of Internet Protocol (IP) communications solutions, today announced that Barry Forman has been appointed President, effective immediately. Forman, who also acts as Executive Chairman, together with Chief Executive Officer Jerry Chang, will create the Office of the President, sharing the company's critical strategic and operational decision-making responsibilities.

Clarent also announced the appointments of William Barker and Arthur Rubinfeld to its Board of Directors. These appointments mark significant progress in the company's initiative to expand its Board, as announced in March.

Bill Barker is the founder and CEO of Springwell Capital Partners, LLC, a merchant banking firm building a portfolio of clients and investments in companies engaged in the content delivery and telecommunications sectors. Prior to Springwell Capital, Barker was a founding partner of Callahan and Associates International and provided the business development leadership for the company's cable telephony business unit. Prior to these ventures, Barker was president of GE Capital Communications Services, a telecommunications development and strategic investment company for GE Capital.

Arthur Rubinfeld, currently an Advisory Board member to the Board of Directors for Starbucks Corporation, has more than fifteen years of strategic counseling, branding, and marketing experience. His focus at Starbucks was to lead retail store development, develop strategic partnerships with other companies to leverage brand awareness and facilitate unit growth. He has enjoyed a distinguished career with Starbucks, serving as Executive Vice President and Senior Vice President from 1992 to 1999, and was primarily responsible for building the company's infrastructure and brand by planning and executing the company's retail presence. Prior to Starbucks, Rubinfeld was a managing partner at Epsteen and Associates, one of California's largest tenant representation real estate companies.
