These products are planned to further enhance the value proposition for global IP telephony clearinghouses as they enable their regional and local carrier members to exchange traffic and clear transactions with security and integrity.

IP telephony global clearinghouses currently allow regionally based telcos and enterprises from around the world to connect to them for billing, settlement, roaming and enhanced services. With today's announcement of Clarent Connect 2.0, clearinghouses also will be able to easily connect with other clearinghouses, dramatically increasing the number of potential partners and global coverage for the clearinghouse's telco and enterprise members. Also, individual members of clearinghouses will be able to connect to many different members' networks or clearinghouse networks. Called "multi-hopping," this new capability is directed towards growing the traffic volume and revenue opportunities for Clarent's extensive telco and clearinghouse customer base.

"Clearinghouses have provided a great benefit to the development of the IP telephony marketplace," said Heidi Bersin, senior vice president, corporate marketing, Clarent Corporation.
