), a global leader in analog and mixed-signal telecommunications components, today announced the CPC (1) (Central Processing Complex) An IBM mainframe that has two or more central processors (CPs) that share memory. It is the collection of processors, memory and I/O subsystems manufactured with a single serial number, typically all contained in one cabinet. 2430, an economical, drop-in embedded modem module for the European market.

The CPC2430 is a 2400-bps modem designed for use in transactional data applications, such as smart appliances, point of sale (POS (1) See point of sale and packet over SONET.

) terminals, remote meters, medical equipment and vending machines.

The CPC2430 is optimized for short transactional data transfers, which require brief connection sessions. The module's quick handshake (data-rate negotiation) time of 1.6 seconds maximum enables the modem to complete a transactional data transfer before higher speed modems can even establish a connection to the network. This capability along with its low cost enables the CPC2430 to offer the best price/performance value for transactional data applications.

"Clare's new family of embedded modem modules establishes an unparalleled price standard in the European market," said Steve Andrezyk, director of marketing for customer premises equipment See CPE. , Clare, Inc. "The CPC2430 offers a 20-30 percent price advantage over competitive modules while meeting standards for reliability, compatibility and package size."

The CPC2430's versatility, small size and drop-in nature lend to its ease of integration. The module is self-configurable to both 3.3V and 5V systems, enabling its use in a variety of different devices. These CPC2430's small size, 3.5cm in width and 4.7cm in length, conserves board space in highly integrated systems. Also, as a complete modem subsystem, the module drops into designs with little design effort, and plugs in quickly during the manufacturing process, speeding product time-to-market. The module meets European regulatory specifications EN60950, EN55024 and EN55022 as well as being compliant to the earlier TBR21 requirement.

The heart of the CPC2430 module is the TDK 73M2901 single chip modem, which integrates controller and data pump functions to provide V.22bis capability. TDK's modem chip features the full AT command set and dual tone multi frequency (communications) Dual Tone Multi Frequency - (DTMF, or "touch-tone") A method used by the telephone system to communicate the keys pressed when dialling. Pressing a key on the phone's keypad generates two simultaneous tones, one for the row and one for the column.  (DTMF (Dual-Tone MultiFrequency) The type of audio signals that are generated when you press the buttons on a touch-tone telephone. ) tone generation and detection. It also does not require any external memory or active support circuitry keeping the overall design streamlined.

Clare's LITELINK single-package data access arrangement (DAA) provides phone line interface functions and voltage isolation for the CPC2430E and the surrounding system. Clare's all-silicon DAA eliminates the need for a bulky transformer at the wireline interface, thus conserving board space and substantially improving reliability.

Pricing and Availability

The CPC2430 is currently available in sample production quantities. For OEM quantities of 1000, the CPC2430 is priced at $20.03 (USD USD
