service offerings of Claranet. To achieve the best performance, the wireless routers selected by Claranet feature the 3-D Reach Wi-Fi technology, an innovative system developed by Netopia in order to optimize the coverage and reliability of wireless networks.

Claranet selected the Netopia 3347W-ENT ADSL Gateway and the Netopia 3387W-ENT Ethernet Gateway for their deployments. These Netopia gateways combine a Wi-Fi Certified See Wi-Fi Alliance.  802.11b Access Point with a 4-port Ethernet switch, a complete VPN (Virtual Private Network) A private network that is configured within a public network (a carrier's network or the Internet) in order to take advantage of the economies of scale and management facilities of large networks.  pass-through, a Stateful Packet Inspection See stateful inspection.  Firewall and an ADSL modem (Netopia 3347W-ENT) or an Ethernet interface which connects to an external modem (Netopia 3387W-ENT). Claranet strives to provide the best service quality to its professional clients. As a result, they chose the Netopia gateways after a meticulous technical assessment. The exceptional reliability, the numerous features and competitive price of the Netopia gateways were decisive in the choice by Claranet.

"Thanks to the 3-D Reach technology featured in the Netopia wireless gateways, the Claranet customers will profit from the ideal security features and wireless coverage for the small offices and home offices as well as small and medium-sized enterprises," said a spokesperson of Claranet. "The 3-D Reach technology, developed by Netopia, can better collect the wireless signals and increase the coverage and the stability of the radio connections."

The results of an independent wireless testing and evaluation laboratory, commissioned to test the wireless capabilities of the Netopia 3347W ADSL Wi-Fi Gateway show that the Netopia 3347W out performs alternative routers. These results are available on the Netopia website.

The Netopia gateways, which are especially designed to meet the requirements of professional users, feature numerous security functions. Introduced in 1997, WEP was found to be very inadequate and was superseded by WPA, WPA2 and 802.11i.  256 bit encryption, the MAC address filtering and a secured access mode enable the user to control wireless network access. A Stateful Packet Inspection firewall, virtual DMZ (DeMilitarized Zone) A middle ground between an organization's trusted internal network and an untrusted, external network such as the Internet. Also called a "perimeter network," the DMZ is a subnetwork (subnet) that may sit between firewalls or off one leg of a , and protection against Denial of Service A condition in which a system can no longer respond to normal requests. See denial of service attack.  (DoS) attacks reinforces the security of the gateways.

Clara Wi-Fi solutions include a subscription to a high speed connection (ADSL, Turbo DSL and SDSL), a wireless Netopia 3-D Reach(TM) 3347W-ENT Gateway or 3387W-ENT Gateway, and the wireless PCMCIA cards, which are necessary for the connection of the laptops and the desktops. Since it is pre-configured according to the settings of the Clara Wi-Fi offer, this wireless bundle is delivered turnkey, which simplifies the installation of a new multi-user Internet connection in a company. Furthermore, since most of small and medium-sized enterprises and small and home offices don't have access to internal technicians, Claranet provides a wide range of services which enable the companies to focus on their business without having to worry about the monitoring of their communication network. The services included in the Claranet offer cover the line monitoring, 24/7 technical support, remote maintenance and the ability to increase the wireless network security through the setup of multi-user and multi-site VPN networks.

Clara Wi-Fi is available by Claranet and companies specializing in the integration of network solutions. Prices vary, based on the number of users and features. A company with five computers subscribing to an ADSL 512 kbps connection, one Netopia 3-D Reach Gateway including the wireless Access Point and integrated Firewall, two wireless PCMCIA cards and three wireless PC cards in the first year would pay EUR EUR
