ERIC Clapton was ready to part with his legendary "Blackie black·ie  
n. Offensive
Variant of blacky.
" guitar today, during a sale of his most treasured instruments.

The classic Fender Stratocaster was going under the hammer at Christie's in New York New York, state, United States
New York, Middle Atlantic state of the United States. It is bordered by Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and the Atlantic Ocean (E), New Jersey and Pennsylvania (S), Lakes Erie and Ontario and the Canadian province of
 and is expected to fetch between pounds 55,000 and pounds 83,000.

Blackie was Clapton's favourite guitar, accompanying him throughout the 1970s and 1980s.

He once said: "I feel that guitar has become part of me."

Also on sale were other guitars belonging to Clapton.

The money will go to the Crossroads Centre addiction treatment clinic that Clapton founded in Antigua in 1997.
