Members of the Public and Commercial Services Union The Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS) is the sixth largest union trade union in the United Kingdom. Most of its members work in positions in government departments and public bodies, although some work in information technology for private companies. were on picket duty outside Crown House and Castle House in the town centre. Union representative Ian Siswick, of the Kirklees and Calderdale branch of the union, said its main concern was job cuts. "They've got rid of 15,000 staff nationwide and there are another 15,000 to go," he said. "We're extremely concerned about the way benefit processing is being moved from Huddersfield to Halifax. Many staff are very worried for their jobs." Mr Siswick said the union had a 75% membership of workers across the offices in Kirklees and Calderdale. Nationally, thousands of workers in Jobcentres, benefits offices and the Child Support Agency are involved in the 48-hour walkout.
