Civil War victory motivates Beavers.

Byline: Rob Moseley The Register-Guard

CORVALLIS - As the losses mounted this season, the Beavers said all the right things.

A finale (italian word) is a closing part, act or movement of a dramatic or musical composition, or more generally any event or procedure with a dramatically concluding effect.
against Oregon, the Beavers could finally admit that they needed this: the enjoyment of victory, and the burst of enthusiasm it can provide.

"After a win like this, it just picks you right up," OSU (Open Source UNIX) Refers to the Unix variants that are maintained as open source, which were primarily BSD Unix and Linux until Sun made its Solaris operating system open source in 2005.  forward Sasa Cuic said before practice Monday, and before the Beavers were scheduled to travel to Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  later in the evening. "Practice is going to be really energetic, there's going to be laughter on the bus - everything's going to be on a different level. That's what winning does for you."

Wednesday, the Beavers (12-17, 5-13) will try to beat the Sun Devils

Hurd made but a ceremonial appearance Saturday, a game also missed by forward Nick DeWitz, who had shoulder surgery Thursday.

In their absence, senior Chris Stephens had one of his best games since Hurd's injury, while the front line of Kyle <noinclude></noinclude>

Jones combined to play 101 out of a possible 120 minutes, 25 more than their combined season average.

"Now that Nick went down, it gives people opportunities to step up and play, and a lot of people are excited about that and fired up for it," Stephens said. "And I think you could tell out there last game."

Jeffers and Cuic are each playing through shoulder injuries of their own, and Jeffers has also had knee trouble this season. But OSU coach Jay John said his starters should again expect to play the bulk of the game Wednesday.

"At this particular point, you ride the ponies 'til they fall," John said. "There's nothing to hold back on. ...

"Marcel, Sasa and Kyle all rose to the challenge I presented them, which was multiple minutes, and being effective and efficient in those minutes. All three of them, I thought, did a great job."

Jeffers will be half of one of Wednesday's key matchups. He will face off with athletic ASU ASU Arizona State University (Tempe, AZ)

forward Jeff Pendergraph, who Monday was named to the Pac-10's all-freshman team. Pendergraph averaged 11.1 points and 6.2 rebounds in the regular season, and was slightly better in each category during conference play.

Jeffers played just 12 minutes against the Sun Devils in a 76-59 loss in Tempe last month due to knee trouble, helping explain Pendergraph's 18 points and 11 rebounds in that game. Also, senior guard Jason Fontenet was not with the team for that road trip; he has since returned.

With Jeffers on Pendergraph, Cuic will be charged with keeping Serge serge 1

Angounou off the boards. And Stephens has the assignment of chasing ASU guard Kevin Kruger, who played nearly 39 minutes per game this season.

Kruger also had a big game against the Beavers in Tempe. He made 5-of-8 three-point attempts that day, making the kinds of shots OSU hopes to limit this time around.

"We'd rather have him dribble than spot up and shoot, because he's great at that," Stephens said.

That was just before he headed off to practice, which the Beavers said would be spirited Monday.

But at the same time, one of the veterans who helped OSU beat UCLA UCLA University of California at Los Angeles
UCLA University Center for Learning Assistance (Illinois State University)
UCLA University of Carrollton, TX and Lower Addison, TX
in the first round of the conference tournament last season issued a caution about getting too excited in the wake of the win over Oregon.

"The people who haven't experienced tournament play, that's what they have to realize: there's nothing extra special just yet," Jeffers said. "This first game is just another game. We have to win the first one to move on."
