Private John Shields (1769–1809), born in Harrisonburg, Virginia was at 34, the second oldest member of the Lewis and Clark Expedition.
. Since taking office, Shields has been on the forefront of gay rights and marriage equality in New York New York, state, United States
New York, Middle Atlantic state of the United States. It is bordered by Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and the Atlantic Ocean (E), New Jersey and Pennsylvania (S), Lakes Erie and Ontario and the Canadian province of
 State.

Mayor Shields is party to the lawsuit filed against the state of New York and Atty. Gen. Eliot Spitzer Eliot Laurence Spitzer (born June 10 1959 ) is an American lawyer, politician and the current Governor of New York. Spitzer was elected governor in the November 2006 election.  (now a Democratic gubernatorial candidate) to allow gays and lesbians to marry their partners. His tireless efforts have made his community and state a better place for GLBT GLBT Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgendered  New Yorkers to love and raise their families.
