Citygate to help newspapers with pay services online.

Citygate, a joint venture formed by Swedish rural newspapers, is to provide pay services to the web sites of the newspapers.

From November November: see month. , the newspapers will charge for some functions on their web sites but not many dare charge for the editorial content and analysts have predicted that it may not be possible to do so, reported Dagens Industri Dagens Industri (often referred to as DI) is a financial newspaper in tabloid format and the most profitable daily newspaper in Sweden. It was founded in 1976 with two issues a week. In 1983 it increased its periodicity to five issues and in 1990 to six. , a Swedish business newspaper.

The initial services that will cost money are advertising and access to archive material.

Ekonomi24, a Swedish business site, has said that it intends to charge for its editorial material as soon as possible and predicts that the entire industry will do the same within 12 months as there is no profit in advertising at the moment.

The 30 largest content providers in Denmark have reportedly also said that they intend to charge for their services.
