-- Easy-to-Use Product Can Help Newspapers Reclaim Revenue Lost to Online Competitors

CityXpress Corp., a company that has generated more than $50 million in revenue for newspapers in the past two years from its event auction program, today announced the release of eClassifiedXpress, a product that gives newspapers the ability to offer e-commerce-enabled classified ads.

"To be successful in meeting the threat posed by online competitors such as eBay and Craigslist, newspapers must respond with strong products that offer users an experience comparable with these offerings," said Phil Dubois Phil DuBois (born November 16, 1956 in Rochester, Minnesota) was an American football tight end in the NFL for the Washington Redskins. He played college football for San Diego State University. , president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of CityXpress. "eClassifiedXpress does that and more by enabling newspapers to leverage the strength of their local presence and complementary print classifieds, so they offer more value than the competition."

The eClassifiedXpress platform is integrated into an existing online classified site, giving sellers the ability to select one of three interactive selling methods when placing an ad: fixed price purchase, best offer or auction. Classified ads that feature one of these options appear with the appropriate transaction button on the newspaper's site. When a purchaser clicks on the button, eClassifiedXpress guides them through the purchase and payment process.

a report released today by Classified Intelligence L.L.C., the interactive-media consulting group, the big three classified verticals - employment, automotive and real estate - are moving steadily online at the expense of print advertising. Merchandise advertising - which generated roughly $2 billion in sales for U.S. daily papers in 2003 - is also moving out of print to online marketplaces. Most notably, it's moving to eBay and to Craigslist.

"Newspapers have known for a long time that eBay and Craigslist were significant threats, but this is the first study that shows just how much they're damaging daily newspapers," said Peter Zollman, founding principal of Classified Intelligence. "Newspaper executives told us in our recent study that eBay and Craigslist are increasingly infringing on their classified revenue. Products such as CityXpress' eClassifiedXpress can help newspapers regain some of their lost ground in the local market."

The community focus of the newspaper is a key strength of eClassifiedXpress. Customers can easily go and touch the products because they are for sale by local people, and receiving larger items such as automobiles and refrigerators is much easier because they do not have to be transported long distances, said Dubois.

CityXpress is currently offering newspapers a guided demonstration of eClassifiedXpress. Those interested should contact Clint McKinlay, director of business development for CityXpress at 303-841-9321 or cmckinlay@cityxpress.com.
