City to host upcoming ecotourism conference. (Sudbury).


An upcoming conference is expected to further establish Sudbury and Northern Ontario Northern Ontario is the part of the province of Ontario which lies north of Lake Huron (including Georgian Bay), the French River and Lake Nipissing.

Eco-North 2002 Eco-Nord, a three-day ecotourism conference and the first Canadian event for the United Nations International Year of Ecotourism, will be held in Sudbury from Feb. 6 to 10. The conference will create a venue for individuals and organizations from across the north to explore tourism possibilities and to discuss opportunities, showcase regional how this sector can develop. The trade show component will provide a forum for private-sector tourism players to profile their services. Organizers of the conference say they hope to raise awareness of the nature of the global ecotourism market and the economic benefits of ecotorism and to identify market needs and demands of ecotourism destinations and programs. Leading Canadian and Northern Ontario tourist operators, experts in the tourism sector from across North America North America, third largest continent (1990 est. pop. 365,000,000), c.9,400,000 sq mi (24,346,000 sq km), the northern of the two continents of the Western Hemisphere. , researchers and government officials are on the roster as speakers at the event.
