BACKGROUND:
Los Angeles City Fire Department, Fire Station No. 67: The 15,000
square foot fire station will be located at Fountain Park Drive and
Playa Vista Drive. The two-story facility was designed by Rebecca
Binder, and will feature bold contemporary designs using decorative
concrete block as the predominant material. The facility will have
drive-through apparatus bays, crew and captains dormitories, a
wellness room for fitness training, and a community room for small
public meetings. The project will incorporate modern efficiency
measure, and the landscaping will feature native drought-tolerant
plants. Fire Station No. 67 will also integrate a public art
component.
Playa Vista: Today nearly 4,000 people live and work at Playa
Vista -- the newest residential and mixed-use community to be built in
West Los Angeles in the last 50 years. Playa Vista is located on 1,086
acres between Marina del Rey, Westchester and Playa del Rey. The new
Westside community provides critically needed housing, commercial
office space, neighborhood shopping and hundreds of acres of restored
wetlands and parks. The project is committed to sustainable
development, and has been recognized as one of five P.A.T.H.
(Partnership for Advancing Technology in Housing) communities in the
United States.
