EDC's goal for the RFEI is to encourage maritime-related uses for the pier, increase economic activity in the area, and maximize the financial return to the City.

The pier is approximately 910 feet wide and 250 feet long. The pier and upland area total about 5.2 acres.

It is currently vacant, however, construction of temporary or permanent structures is encouraged. Any maritime-related industrial or recreational uses compatible with the area's zoning restrictions will be considered.

The Pier is zoned for light industrial uses. Respondents to the RFEI are required to propose a minimum five-year lease on the property.

The site is part of the City-owned former Bush Terminal Industrial Park, located between Gowanus Bay and First Avenue at the foot of 42nd Street.

Access to the Gowanus Expressway The Gowanus Expressway is an expressway in the Borough of Brooklyn, City of New York.  (I-287) is provided by an off-ramp at 39th Street and Third Avenue, and an entrance ramp entrance ramp n (US) (AUT) → rampa de acceso

Pier 6 is an earth-filled pier structure with a combination of steel and timber sheet piles around its perimeter. The bulkhead is in poor condition and will require stabilization prior to reuse. The developer chosen to develop the site will be required to obtain an updated inspection report and will be responsible for improvements.
