City of West Hollywood Hosts Celebration of Artistic Freedom Charity Event to Benefit Amnesty International, Artists for a New South Africa and the ACLU Foundation of Southern California.


WEST HOLLYWOOD West Hollywood

, Calif. -- The City of West Hollywood will host the Celebration of Artistic Freedom Academy Awards "Party With a Purpose" viewing dinner, after party and awards program on Sunday, March 5, 2006. The dinner and Academy Awards viewing party will feature red carpet arrivals and will take place at Pearl Restaurant Pearl Restaurant (or just "Pearl") is an expensive, highly rated, restaurant in Richmond, Victoria, Australia. Geoff Lindsay is currently the chef at Pearl.

Opened in 2000, the "more formal dining room" seats 70, and the Cafe seats about 20. There is also an outdoor patio.
 and Nightclub located at 665 N. Robertson Boulevard Robertson Boulevard is a street in Los Angeles. The northern part of the street in West Hollywood is a trendy tree-lined shopping district.

Robertson is best known as a recent celebrity hangout.
, followed by the after party at Factory, upstairs from Pearl and located at 652 N. LaPeer Drive in West Hollywood. This event is hosted by the City, and benefits Amnesty International Amnesty International (AI,) human-rights organization founded in 1961 by Englishman Peter Benenson; it campaigns internationally against the detention of prisoners of conscience, for the fair trial of political prisoners, to abolish the death penalty and torture of , Artists for a New South Africa and the ACLU ACLU: see American Civil Liberties Union.  Foundation of Southern California, and focuses on human and civil rights while honoring creative excellence.

This is the fourth year in which the City of West Hollywood is hosting this event which distinguishes itself as unique among the usual Oscar fervor, by paying tribute to those artists who both entertain and embrace social responsibility. It also serves as a reminder to fellow artists, activists and community members the important role that those working in the entertainment industry can play in shaping our global village.

Being honored at this year's event is special guest Jose Ramos-Horta, a prominent leader in the human rights movement, a 1996 Nobel Peace Prize The Nobel Peace Prize (Swedish and Norwegian: Nobels fredspris) is the name of one of five Nobel Prizes bequeathed by the Swedish industrialist and inventor Alfred Nobel.  Laureate, and the Foreign Minister of East Timor since independence in 2002. Recipients for this year's awards are Mira Sorvino and the Lions Gate film, "Crash." Mira Sorvino is receiving the Artist of Conscience Award for her superior body of work throughout her career, including her most recent starring role in "Human Trafficking," a thought-provoking film about the international sex slave trade slave trade
