City of West Hollywood Hosts 20th Anniversary of Cityhood Open House on Monday, November 29, 2004 at City Hall.

WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. -- Since its establishment in 1984, West Hollywood has become one of the most influential cities in the country. From leading the fight against AIDS to championing the protection of civil rights and human rights, from fighting against discrimination of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender persons to providing funding for vital social services for thousands of people in need, no other City of its size has had a greater impact on the national public policy agenda. At twenty, West Hollywood has a lot to be proud of, so the City will celebrate its 20th Anniversary of Cityhood with a Community Open House on Monday, November 29, 2004 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at West Hollywood City Hall, 8300 Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood. The event is free and the public is encouraged to attend.

West Hollywood City Hall will be decorated with balloons and streamers for this important party, where guests will have the opportunity to learn about the City's history and accomplishments, meet with City officials and enjoy special 20th anniversary refreshments, including a giant birthday cake. A panel of West Hollywood "experts" will share their experiences with the public. At 10 a.m., an "Early Cityhood Activists" panel will include: Tony Melia, Ruth Williams and Avis Wiseman. At 3 p.m., a "Veteran West Hollywood City Staff" panel will include: City Attorney Mike Jenkins, Director of Public Information and Legal Services Helen Goss and Director of Social Services Lloyd Long. An art exhibit will display classic, iconic images of past and present West Hollywood and the video "West Hollywood at 20: Fulfilling the Vision" will make its debut and air throughout the day.
