After Hawthorne Boulevard intersects with Century Boulevard in Inglewood, La Brea Avenue is formed. La Brea passes north through Windsor Hills, Baldwin Hills, and Ladera Heights. . ZGF is the firm responsible for designing the new California Science Center The California Science Center (sometimes spelled California ScienCenter) is a state agency and museum located in Exposition Park, Los Angeles. Billed as the West Coast's largest hands-on science center, the California ScienCenter is a public-private partnership between the State , the hugely popular science museum that opened in Exposition Park in February 1998. As part of the takeover of Santa Monica Boulevard, the city has held a series of Santa Monica Boulevard Visioning Workshops to develop a community vision for the future of the boulevard. ZGF has been hired to incorporate the results of these workshops into a comprehensive streetscape design plan and make this vision a reality. The proposed plan will include conceptual designs for the layout of the public right-of-way along Santa Monica Boulevard. It will also include recommendations on the width of sidewalks and traffic lanes; trees and landscaping concepts; pedestrian and street lighting; signage on the public right-of-way; public art as well as preliminary design concepts for the gateways at Doheny Drive and Santa Monica Boulevard and La Brea Avenue and Santa Monica Boulevard. The California Science Center has garnered enormous public interest, inspiring media comparisons with the new Getty Center. In addition to designing the 245,000-square-foot Science Center, ZGF developed a master plan for Exposition Park, which included various park improvements and will ultimately result in an expanded Science Center of more than 600,000 square feet. ZGF's urban design work has included such projects as the Figueroa Corridor Economic Development Study in Los Angeles; MAX Light Rail System in Portland, Ore.; and 16th Street Mall Extension in Denver.
