However, this year the City has started a new tradition - the lighting will be from "green" energy. The City announced today that it has secured the renewable energy from Constellation NewEnergy (CNE (Certified NetWare Engineer) See Novell certification. ), which will be supplying the lighting in Mill Creek Park through Maine generated renewable energy sources. CNE has worked with many towns, colleges and leading Maine companies, helping them to cost effectively and efficiently incorporate green energy into their electricity needs. Through obtaining these credits, the renewable power offsets the carbon emissions created from using traditional fossil-fueled electricity. City Manager Ted Jankowski said, "This is a wonderful opportunity to both celebrate the holidays and help the environment at the same time." This past Monday, Mayor Claude Morgan in his inaugural address outlined a priority for the exploration of bringing renewable energy to City operations. Mayor Morgan said: "South Portland is committed to making a difference and reducing the amount of carbon pollution through the promotion of renewable energy. I would like to see the City of South Portland in the forefront in energy conservation in the State of Maine" For more information on renewable energy in Mill Creek Park: Ted Jankowski: (207) 767-7606 For more information on the Tree Lighting Ceremony visit www.southportland.org. |
