Vikki Irwin, Lawndale finance manager and city treasurer, the city's current computerized financial system is 16 years old, has become expensive to maintain and the software is old and difficult to enhance to meet current city needs. Noting that recommendations to improve the computerization system was contained in the city's Long Range Computer Plan completed in 1995, she remarked:

"Through our new agreement with Mission Management, we will be able to upgrade the current financial system hardware and software which will enable us to both reduce the current rate of expenditure over a 10 year period and assure that the city has a high level of support and a predictable expenditure rate."

In addition, Irwin reported that the new contract -- which calls for the replacement of the old hardware and software over an 18 month period -- affords the city the flexibility to make further improvements to the financial software as needed as needed prn. See prn order. .

Commenting on the contract which his company has received from Lawndale, MMI Chief Executive Officer William R. Hazelwood said this program may become a model for service delivery to cities the size of Lawndale because of the comprehensiveness of the services provided and the fact that it provides the city with a predictable expenditure rate.

Hazelwood said that the services to be provided will include: maintenance of computer hardware and software; training of city personnel; and various customized services to meet the city's specific needs. All city financial systems will be involved, he added, such as general records, payroll, receivables and payables.
