California's fifth largest city, which employs almost 4,000, selected PeopleSoft as part of its aggressive plan to make Fresno a high-technology center.

"PeopleSoft completes a major piece of the puzzle in transitioning Fresno into a high-tech city," said Hap Cluff, CIO CIO: see American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations.

to businesses and citizens through PeopleSoft applications represents a major step in achieving our mission." Cluff added that the company's significant market penetration and use by neighboring localities was also a deciding factor in selecting PeopleSoft.

PeopleSoft Automates Missouri State Employees Retirement System

Missouri State Employees Retirement System licensed PeopleSoft applications to give more employees access to data and decision-making tools. With the licensing of PeopleSoft Human Resources and Payroll solutions as well as General Ledger, Accounts Payable and Budgeting solutions, the Missouri State Employment System will automate system processes that are currently being done manually.

"With PeopleSoft, we are providing user-friendly applications with high functionality on the desktops of every one of our employees," said Michele Nix, Account Analyst III, Missouri State Employee Retirement System. "This will allow each employee to have access to their own HR and financial records whenever they have a question, freeing our office from frequent individual questions."

PeopleSoft to Link Tuolumne County, California, and Tuolumne General Hospital

Tuolumne County in California licensed PeopleSoft financials and human resource applications to head off a Year 2000 issue and to join together two disparate systems. The county needed a reliable system that could be rapidly implemented by January 1, 1999, when the county-owned hospital's separate mainframe will cease to operate. Additionally, the county and the hospital, Tuolumne General Hospital, both needed to be on the same system to ensure better funding decisions and better reporting to the state. Currently, the county isn't able to access the hospital's financial records and the hospital cannot supply detailed information for the county budget.

"It was very important for us to find a vendor whose software could help us meet California's strict reporting requirements and thus, avoid potentially heavy fines," said Gregg Jacob, Information Systems and Services Manager for Tuolumne County. "We researched what other California governments were using, and PeopleSoft's experience in California and familiarity with the states reporting standards gave us assurance that we could rapidly implement their applications with little modification."

With a rapid implementation underway, the County and Tuolumne General Hospital are expected to be running PeopleSoft's General Ledger, Accounts Payable and Purchasing applications by January 1, 1999.
