City of Adel Completes Construction of a 190 Foot Wireless Internet Tower; High-Speed Internet Service to Start Soon.

John Overley, Vice President of Tri-State Broadband, stated the tower will broadcast a "high speed wireless internet signal" that subscribers can receive on a wireless modem A modem and antenna that transmits and receives over the air. Wireless modems support several technologies, including 802.11, Bluetooth, CDPD, DataTAC, Mobitex and Ricochet. There are wireless modems for laptops, handhelds and cellphones.  "non-line-of-sight", up to 4 miles, and possibly further if conditions are right. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 79,334. Census Estimates of 2005 show a population of 98,137. Residents of Roswell are referred to as Roswellians. , to install and maintain the wireless system. Broadband digital communications connection that operates over standard copper telephone wires. It requires a DSL modem, which splits transmissions into two frequency bands: the lower frequencies for voice (ordinary
 speeds to the City of Adel and the surrounding area (businesses and residents) and supports both line-of-sight and non-line-of-sight connections.

"With this Hybrid-Fiber-Wireless (HFW) broadband solution, we can now leverage the city's fiber system and deliver high speed Internet services to businesses and residents. We will truly leverage our existing fiber system with this wireless last mile solution, and that is a big plus for the community," stated Wayne Taunton, Superintendent of Electrical Utilities.

With the Southlink project, the City of Adel also has established an integrated high capacity fiber (HFW) wireless (OC48), high-speed point of presence (POP) and plans to connect other nearby cities extending its high-speed service See broadband. .
