QHC is located near the intersection of Parsons Boulevard and Goethals Avenue, off the Grand Central Parkway The Grand Central Parkway is a parkway that stretches from the Triborough Bridge in New York City to Nassau County on Long Island. At the Queens-Nassau border, it becomes the Northern State Parkway, which runs across the northern part of Long Island through Nassau County and into , in Jamaica, Queens. Construction of a new 200-bed hospital in 2001 has allowed for consolidation of existing operations, leaving portions of the campus available for redevelopment. The RFP parcel, currently under demolition, will be subdivided from the lot where the old hospital is located. Proposals should include rental housing that is affordable for middle-income families and a parking garage for hospital employees and visitors. Respondents are also encouraged to include office and retail development. Suggested commercial uses include professional medical offices, a physical rehabilitation center, a pharmacy, a day care center and a restaurant. The new QHC hospital, featuring Centers for Women's Health, Cancer Care and Diabetes, employs 1,800 people. Last year it had 12,000 clinic visits and a half a million hospital visitors. This RFP is one of several initiatives by the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation and the Queens Hospital Center to diversify facilities and services on the QHC campus. Other planned projects include a new center for the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, rehabilitation of the "T" Building into an assisted living facility for the elderly, and construction of a magnet school for students interested in health sciences.
